My Dad attends Crozier Lodge day centre. At the beginning he was very reluctant to join in and told me everyone was really old, truth be told dad may be the oldest man there, as he is in his late eighties!
The staff advised me to continue to bring him even if for part of the morning and collect him early, which I did and of course they knew exactly what they were doing. Dad gradually got to chat with others and join in with activities and lunches and now he is up and ready to go on Mondays … it is one less day for him to look at four walls and miss mom. He is learning new things, playing dominoes, arts and crafts, chair based exercises, sing a longs, chit chatting with other attendees and enjoying all the company and diversity of the group as well as a lunch with dessert!
The other day I peeped my head into the room where he was making old transcripts paper by soaking it with old tea bags, he was concentrating so hard and enjoying it so much and conversing with staff, it made my heart melt.
The staff are so brilliant, they know how to make him feel special and wanted and important and valuable. This is a very special place for our seniors, it is not just special but essential.
Thank you for making such a difference.
