"The programme has been amazing"

About: Cambridgeshire Recovery Service Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire / Cambridge City

(as a service user),

When I first started Foundations of Life, I was feeling very vulnerable. I had previously engaged in CGL/CRS and AA to address my issues with alcohol. I had just at this point left and acknowledged the relationship I was in was abusive and was feeling very lost. I am also in court proceedings due to this relationship and alcohol, and so the journey in recovery has been very difficult in trying to understand and deal with emotions sober.

Through Foundations of Life, I have learnt so much about myself and life in general and confirmed that not only were my feelings natural, but I am stronger than I had previously thought. I am a better person than I thought.

The topics were thought-provoking in a good way. The support from my peers and staff, Jo, Andrea, Emily & Arlene, were amazing, and I felt validated as a person.

I have now learnt that I can deal with difficult situations in life sober with the right people around me. Whatever happens from now on, I know I can deal with it correctly, and so I feel the future now looks promising.

I am more confident, content, and happy with just being me.

I am so happy that I did and completed the Foundations of Life programme. It has literally been a life-changing group for me personally, and I’ve met some truly amazing people who have now become good friends.

Friends of whom we value and support one another in and outside of the programme.

Thank you so much; it has been amazing.

Hi DeeDaa

Firstly thank you for your comments. I met you yesterday at the graduation and I have to say it was the most amazing experience. Tears were shed by many and laughter was had by all. What a wonderful group you are. Recovery happens outside of the 4 walls of CGL but our wonderful staff, volunteers and Peer mentors help to guide and point you in the right direction. I am proud of what our service provides and hearing the stories from you all make it all worthwhile. However it is you who do the hard work every single day and night constantly working at your recovery. The support is there as you know and I also know you will use it. I look forward to our paths crossing again soon.

Thanks you again.
