"Suspected pancreatitis "

About: Scottish Ambulance Service Southern General Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

In mid 2011 I was suffering from extreme stomach pains and eventually called an ambulance. The ambulance crew diagnosed me with possible pancreatitis and took me to hospital.. The ambulance service was good and care was great. They couldn’t do enough.

When I got to the ward they put me in a curtained cubicle and after some length of time I heard a nurse comment to a doctor that I was next (they mentioned me by name). After a short silence which I suspect was when the doctor was looking at my notes I hear the doctor say no because it was self inflicted!

I was two years in recovery at this time but obviously my records showed a previous history of alcohol abuse.

I was left again for another while before someone came to see me and I was in extreme pain. After the next doctor came to see me in A&E things seemed to perk up after I told them I hadn’t had a drink in two years.

It’s unacceptable really.
