Disappointed in the Endocrinology department at the RAH in Paisley.
Having a few instances of hyperthyroidism over the years, I am back under their care again. At my first meet-me appointment, the clinician wanted to have a discussion about next steps. Having been on medication for about 18 months, I was informed that I can't stay on medication forever and must decide on a more permanent solution, either RAI or thyroid removal.
There was no discussion as to why I couldn't stay on medication, just I needed to make a more permanent decision. On further research, I found there is no reason why I can't carry on medication. Given the fact there is a possibility this could be Graves' Disease, although TRAbs have not been tested, destruction or removal of thyroid will only solve the hyperthyroidism and not the Graves.
I feel like it's simply a matter of getting patients like myself off of the Endocrinology list and move us to another specialty.
Overall, disappointed and lack of trust that my care is being taken seriously.
