I recently attended for an endoscopy at Whiteabbey Hospital. I found the staff rude, sharp and condescending. No one listened or tried to spent the time listening to me and reassuring me. I was left after the admission in a closed room for over 2 hours. No one came near me again until the Dr needed my consent. By this time I was overwhelmed, scared frightened and agitated. I found the unit dysfunctional, staff could be heard giggling and laughing in the background- I found this not very professional.
Later after my procedure, staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves and appeared oblivious to the patients in the bed. It seemed to be a social gathering for staff. Previously, I was treated at other hospitals and it was a totally different experience. Staff checked in on me and kept me up to date when it was my turn.
Maybe staff in Whiteabbey learn from that as to how staff treat and engage with their patients and make them feel valued and not a hassle or inconvenience. My advice to the staff - stop look and listen and take a leaf from their colleagues in other units.
