I have been attending the Macular Clinic for a few years now and very concerned I haven’t seen a Doctor since pre Covid. I just seem to get injections 4-6 months at a time, however it’s meant to be a planned treatment if 8-12 weeks. Treatment is very ad hoc therefore my vision gets poor before my next injection.
The service is very stretched or not managed effectively! Staff seem disengaged with patients and you are made to feel that’s it’s a conveyor belt. When I raise the issue with the nurse about my treatment not being within the timeframe, I was told that’s the way it is and there is nothing which can be done so I have to put up with it.
I feel this is unacceptable as I am trying to maintain my job, drive safely and have some independence without long term damage being done due to repeatedly delayed treatment due to a poorly managed service and under funding for it. Staff should spend time with their patients and listen compassionately to concerns and action taken by the Belfast Trust to address underfunding.
