About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Out of Hours Victoria Hospital / Respiratory Medicine Victoria Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as a service user),

I rang nhs24 at 9.30am on a Sunday I was given an appointment at my local out of hours care center an hour later. By noon I had been transferred to hospital, had blood tests, an ecg, a nebulizer and lunch!

I then had a chest x-ray, several Consultant visits and a stack more meds.

Dinner and supper followed then a transfer to the 'penthouse' where I was greeted like a celebrity by a corridor of medical people welcoming me to the ward! And after the initial assessment and admission part I've been in private rooms all to myself. I've seen a lot of medical professionals in the last 24hrs and every one was kind, caring, cheerful and friendly.

This is not private healthcare. This is our nhs. We are so incredibly lucky to have access to this kind of treatment completely free of charge whenever we need it. We must not lose this service.

(Plus I also witnessed staff having to deal with a very distressed and aggressive patient who was being persistently abusive. The nurse was so calm, caring and patient. She told me after that she understands why people behave like that and it's her job to try and help them. Such an inspiration.)

Dear zabramr78

I hope you are doing much better. I'm sorry to learn you were unwell and required to attend hospital.

Yours is a fantastic example of seamless patient care and, from what you have shared, the staff who cared for you clearly left a hugely positive impression. Well done to each and every one of them. I note my colleagues from NHS Fife have already responded and will share your story with their teams.

I see you had contact with NHS 24 and we referred you to NHS Fife for ongoing care. It would be great if we could identify the staff who managed your call to 111 and share your story with them. So, if and when you feel up to it, it would be great to hear further from you. You can call me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Stories such as yours are fantastic to see and share. You are absolutely correct when you say we are incredibly lucky to have such a service. We are indeed.

Take care meantime and best wishes.

Shona
