"Hard working and compassionate staff"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Plastic Surgery & Burns (wards 45, 47, 48 & 49) Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to ward 49 at the Royal Infirmary as my pancreas had stopped working, from ward 24 RAH which was excellent  I was  take back to dark ages - it’s a tired ward so short of space. lovely patients  but no tv. I witnessed good and bad practice on my time there.

The staff nurse was wonderful, mentoring  student nurses. There was  one outstanding  care assistant on the day shift - what a kind caring lady. there was angel on night shift too who has been auxiliary for 30 + years I think. Again lovely hard working compassionate.  Both ladies were old school trained .

We had a bariatric patent in our ward.  The charge nurse on the ward was hands on, turning patient.  I was well impressed as they had never done it before but rolled up their sleeves and got in with the team.

The Dr in rm 2 was lovely as they put in my new venflon.

I had extreme pleasure in meet  a lovely lovely student nurse - sorry forgot your name but you know who you are. I was having a rough time with veins collapsing  she was so good you will have started you chosen post I hope I meet you to thank you for kindness shown.

Dear Lindsay,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay in our Surgical Assessment Unit (within part of ward 49) in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

I was pleased to hear of your experiences with regards to the hard working and compassionate staff.

I am sorry to hear that the facilities in the ward fell below your expectations. Normally patients are only in our Assessment Unit for a short period before being transferred to our Surgical Receiving units. As such, they are no television facilities for patients at present, but thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Best Wishes

Chris
