I have become extremely dependent on the NHS and the care it provides. I am a diabetic with Charcot foot which developed about 14 years ago, when I was 60. The services I want to report on are Fife Podiatry and Tayside Orthotics at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Over the years my foot has become more distorted and from time to time I get wounds where the distortion meets my shoe.
Fife Podiatry have been extremely careful in treating my feet, are always a phone call away and persistent in dealing with problems that arise. More than once the wound has become infected. Recently I have suffered from an infection which has taken some shifting and I have had a variety of antibiotics for the foot and also for an infection of the bladder which was happening at the same time. I have been feeling very poorly and my morale has not been good. One anxiety I never had was concerning the service I get from the podiatrists Fife. I have been seen often and the treatment is always superb. This morning I was told there is no sign now of infection. I cannot praise them too highly. I depend on them for quality of life.
Orthotics at Ninewells are similarly caring. Over the last 14 years they have worked very hard to make my life more bearable. I have experienced tremendous effort to get things right for me as my foot has continued to become distorted. I have had a series of new shoes made for me and on Monday I get my latest pair. Again, I cannot fault them nor can they be over-praised as far as I am concerned.
There are many other clinics who deserve praise, I have a number of conditions, eg heart. Both the ambulance service and those who operated to insert stents at Ninewells were more than excellent.
I think that people like me rest much easier for our regular monitoring.
