I've been a cancer patient 3 years and I've attended lots of hospital appointments.
Recently I've needed emergency care and noticed different hospital operations give poorer outcome. Fife has an admissions unit. This is large busy and appears short staffed from medical and experienced doctors.
Lothian also has a specialist unit but it's well staffed, busy but appears organised and medical and AHPs are involved sooner. I'd like to have more of this experience and other areas would learn from it. This reduces stress and worry on admissions and communication is good, food is available and quiet areas when required can be found. Staff are approachable, calm, well mannered and knowledgeable. This is very helpful and professional and what public look for in times like this.
Good working practice should be highlighted and where areas struggling with difficulties could learn or be changed it would be better to effectively audit those places and make improvements.
