"My thoughts on my experience as a patient!"

About: Frenchay Hospital

Anything else?

I was diagnosed with a very large meningioma in May 2012, and admitted in the June. My surgeon explained everything to me extremely thoroughly. He was as reassuring as possible given the circumstances, and left me in no doubt that he is an expert in his field. I was admitted in rather a hurry due to having a seizure, and the A&E team were wonderful, not just looking after me promptly, but reassuring my elderly parents. My surgeon oversaw my earlier-than-planned admission, and made me feel at ease, despite my tumour being of life-threatening size. The nursing staff on the wards could not have been more caring, even when they were obviously very busy. Post op I was in Intensive Care for a while, I'm not sure exactly how long for, and even in my heavily medicated state I was amazed at how clean the ICU was! Back on the 'normal' wards the standard of cleanliness was just as high, and I noticed how thorough the staff were in communicating with each other, particularly at shift changeover. I would not hesitate to recommend Frenchay Hospital as a centre of excellence.

Dear Stella – I was pleased to receive your thoughts on your patient journey through Frenchay Hospital. Thank you for your kind comments about your experience. I have shared this with the directorate management teams concerned to enable the staff involved to be informed. Your comments reinforce the many compliments North Bristol Trust as a whole receives, and which every year hugely outweigh any negative views or complaints. The A&E department in particular has been challenged by the growing number of attendances, which have recently reached record numbers, since our monitoring began some years ago. It is good to hear that all staff, from the consultant to the ward teams, delivered good patient centred care and acted in the empathetic and professional way we would expect. It is also kind of you to mention the cleaners, who are vital cog in the larger NHS wheel, without them the services could not effectively function. The site facilities management team have also been made aware of your comments. I hope that you are now feeling much better after your neurosurgery and that you will soon be completely recovered. Kind regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team Manager
