"Another stay in hospital"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Male Medical

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was admitted to hospital in the early hours and then admitted to male medical.

It has been a good experience up until last night. I had a very tough experience last night when getting blood tests done. They attempted 15 times in different parts of me and it was very traumatic. They weren’t very gentle at all. Then this morning a lovely doctor came in and was able to get it first attempt. She was lovely and gentle. She was very nice and extremely informative, keeping me well informed of my condition and explained everything very thoroughly to me.

Another thing that I haven’t enjoyed about my experience in Male medical is that there are nurses who are a different nationality and would speak their native language among each other when attending to me, and this makes me a little paranoid and uncomfortable that I don’t know what they are saying, or if they are talking about me.

One suggestion I would mention for improving male medical would be putting mirrors in the shower rooms.

But other than this, I have been well looked after.

Hi Tersq66,

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback, I really appreciate you doing so. I am very sorry to hear your time in male medical was not all positive and venepuncture was attempted so many times. I will address this at our ward safety brief, ensuring other patients do not have the same experience. I am sorry to hear you went though this.

I am also sorry that you felt uncomfortable with some of the nursing staff speaking in a different language, this is not the ethos of the ward and has already been addressed with ward staff.

I appreciate your suggestion for improving male medical, we always strive to do better and I will follow this up.

Many thanks

Sinead
