"High blood pressure in late pregnancy"

About: Maternity care / Maternity Day Care

(as a service user),

I attended a routine midwife appointment on my due date, where my blood pressure was found to be high so I was referred to maternity day care for monitoring.

I was naturally very anxious and worried about the baby, even more so as I have had a textbook pregnancy with no extra appointments needed.

I was taken right on time, and put at ease straight away. I was there two consecutive days for an hour of monitoring each time.

The two midwives who looked after me, Fiona and Gilliam, were both fab. They were so experienced and able to explain things to me so clearly when I was panicking a bit. They reassured me and made sure everything was looked at thoroughly.

On my second day I was also reviewed by Dr Hendry, who was great with me.  She explained everything and we decided together that an induction was the safest option for me and baby.

I was discharged with medication for my blood pressure.

I also work for the nhs and felt genuinely quite overwhelmed with gratitude for the team looking after me during these two episodes of monitoring.

Hoping for a straight forward delivery now.

Dear learningyw96,

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us abut your experience here in Day care at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit.

I am delighted that Fiona and Gillian were able to help you feel at ease and were able to reassure you and explain things to you. I will ensure that your thanks and gratitude is passed on to the team in Day Care.

It is lovely to hear how well supported you felt by Dr Hendry and that you left feeling reassured with a safe plan in place.

Best wishes to you and your family and look forward to seeing you soon when your baby is born.

Gaynor
