I was referred by my GP to the Insomnia Service at the Royal Surrey.
Over a period of nearly 6 months I had regular sessions with the team who helped me to understand the likely reasons behind my poor sleeping patterns and provided advice and multiple, very user-friendly, resources to help me improve my sleep. This included one-on-one sessions with reference to a sleep diary, and online sleep tutorials, plus recommendations of extremely helpful websites, books and apps.
The sessions were always friendly, encouraging and positive. Over the course of treatment the focus was on building an understanding of why my sleep wasn't as it should be and what factors were likely to be affecting my sleep, and then gradually putting changes in place, session by session, to help improve my sleep.
The advice that I received was from an undoubted subject matter expert who had many useful suggestions of simple changes that I could make to my daily routine and sleep routine, and critically, what do do (and especially what mindset to adopt) when waking up or struggling to sleep.
It was excellent advice and, whilst the road to sleeping 'normally' is a long one, the treatment that I received from the Insomnia Service has definitely put me a long way down the road to recovery. I am extremely grateful for all of the advice and support that I received from this excellent team.
