"Felt on edge"

About: Sexual Health Services - Telford and Wrekin (Open Clinic)

(as the patient),

I was really nervous about attending the clinic today for my coil fitting. I turned up feeling upset and anxious. I told the staff member how I felt and they didn’t really try to make me feel at ease.

Unfortunately I couldn’t have my coil fitted because I had unprotected sex two weeks prior to this appointment. They seemed very annoyed at me and asked me if I wanted to have a baby. I explained that of course, I didn’t want a baby, otherwise I wouldn’t have chosen to go on the coil, it was just an in the moment thing and I didn’t think of the consequences of not being able to get the coil.

I really didn’t warm to the member of staff. I felt like from the get go they weren't very welcoming, which I was nervous about as it is. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get the coil fitted, as I wouldn’t have felt very relaxed for the procedure. Unfortunately I will be requesting someone else in the practise to do the procedure or I will be going elsewhere as, like I said, I did not feel welcome and at ease with this person.

Hi

Many thanks for taking the time to let us know how you felt about your visit to the service, your feedback is an important way of letting us know where we need to make changes.

I am so sorry that your experience was not how you felt it should be and that you felt nervous and unwelcome.

It is our aim to ensure that everyone feels as comfortable as possible, though I do appreciate that coming to the service can be uncomfortable.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me via the email address below to discuss how a return visit will be as supportive as possible.

I will also discuss this with any staff involved to ensure that your experience is not repeated.

Kind regards,

Jo
