During my time in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the staff etc have been great. I’m young & independent. Next to me was a particularly infirm elderly gentleman, who had no visitors in the week he has been here due to his wife also being infirm. Some of the staff make an effort to chat with him which is lovely. Although I’d have liked to have seen more, I appreciate how busy they are and how much work they have to do.
At home he told me he reads a paper daily, but hasn’t had a paper since being in here, and has no access to TV etc via smartphone in hosp, so sits bored all day.
There has to be a benefit in us providing people, especially the elderly with newspapers or a trolley service to increase mental wellbeing and reduce isolation surely?
