In her 33rd week of pregnancy, my wife experienced bleeding and contractions. She was taken to the Wishaw maternity unit where she was examined immediately. Upon my arrival, I was met by the professional and caring staff who calmly informed me that my wife was going into early labour.
Early the following morning, my wife went into labour. This was an unexpected, worrying and stressful experience for us both. The staff, however, reassured us with their professionalism, competence and humour. If I were to list the names of all the fantastic staff who helped us, then my story would be a list of every person that we met during those days. I do, however, want to mention our incredible midwife, Karen. Karen's professional yet relaxed manner helped me to get through one of the most stressful and frightening experiences of my life.
My daughter being born prematurely was a traumatic experience for my wife and me. However, we were able to cope well with this difficult time thanks to the staff at the maternity unit. Thanks to these caring professionals, we have some genuinely good memories of this experience.
