I was referred to the self management skills course by the mental health team when I was having a really bad time.
I found this really helpful, as they actually suggested something proactive and useful, that I wouldn't have to source myself.
The waiting time was quite long, but the communication was excellent and the group was really helpful.
I found the secretary, very helpful when I had questions, and responded to emails quickly.
The group itself was brilliant, facilitated by compassionate and engaging people, and although I was nervous to start off with, I became comfortable very quickly and didn't feel like I was in a "patient" role and being treated. It was a collective group with everyone participating and feeling equal.
The one downside was that one of the sessions had to be rescheduled, and although I agreed on the time we discussed, I wasn't reminded and forgot about it until after it had happened. I think just a little email the morning of the session to remind people would be good, as mental health problems can really impact on memory.
On the whole, I have been very impressed with the service offered and the practitioners who led the course especially.
