I spoke with Dr. Robinson at Culloden Medical practice about an ongoing issue. I explained my previous GP had suggested a treatment before I moved.
He explained that he would look into it for me and contact the relevant specialist. I expected to wait for a long time, however he called me back later the same day to update me and explain that he had contacted the specialist and was waiting to hear back.
I really appreciated this, because I know how pressed for time GPs are, and calling me to tell me that he was waiting to hear back was over and above what I would have expected at all.
He contacted me again when he heard back from the specialists and organised treatment.
When I saw him again some months later, he explained how the treatment would carry on, showing me the letter of advice from the specialist.
I also had my young child with me for the appointment who had what looked like impetigo around his mouth. Although the appointment wasn't for my child, and I hadn't expected the doctor to do anything and therefore hadn't mentioned it, he noticed the problem and checked the rash and prescribed cream. This was another example of when this particular GP went over and above what was reasonably expected.
