"Lack of interest"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Fracture Clinic (orthopaedics)

(as the patient),

Went for review after recent surgery.   Initially waiting to check in while staff ignored me and continued to discuss holidays. Staff appeared totally uninterested in me my wound or my anxiety regarding what would come next.

The staff didn't interact with me. They removed my dressing then a new dressing was put on. They did not give clear instructions on what I was to do with dressing or support garment.   I was feeling quite unwell post dressing change. Handed a leaflet but when I got home it seemed different from what I think was said. Not new dressing to change wound or instructions about dressing and not being reviewed for another 4 weeks.

I did not find it acceptable. Where is the compassion, communication or being treated with dignity.  I am very thankful for my surgery and care but department totally let down by some staff attitude and lack of interest which was plain to see.

Dear Golfpp64,

Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to comment about your experience and I hope you are recovering well following your recent surgery.

I am sorry that you felt you were not treated with compassion, that staff did not reassure you and did not give you advice about your wound care. This is not the experience that I want for any patients who come into my dept.

To enabe me to look into this further, could I ask that you contact me directly either by phone on 0141 314 6789 or email linda.blair2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Best wishes

Linda
