"Gynaecology at Maesteg community hospital"

About: Cwm Taf University Health Board

(as the patient),

After having a CT scan for another problem it was shown that I had a cyst on my Right ovary. I had been losing weight, stomach pains, fatigue etc an consultation was arranged with a male Gynae at Maesteg community hospital.  I was in the room less than five mins to be told it's all normal! No exam, no history taken, nothing. I basically had to fight to get him to examine me where he took his narcissism out on me.it was a very unpleasant experience indeed. Felt he treated me with great disdain.

I have a huge family history of breast, colon cancers he didn't bother to ask a history, in fact had I not demanded an audience my sheet he was hovering over would have been blank with just one word NORMAL... I am 55 and know that post menopausal cysts are dodgy. He was not right in my view saying that the blood test will show, but as is known, there are some women for whom the test shows nothing, he also stated that the CT wasn't a good scan, but yet the previous ultrasound found nothing and a CT scan did.

I felt that had I hadn't stood my ground this person would have done nothing. He eventually arranged another ultrasound and blood test but the ultrasound given was not a transvaginal? I had a letter saying all normal and to be referred back to GP...suffice to say I will be seeking a second opinion as I had no faith whatsoever in this consultants ability or knowledge. You wait months to be flipped off in 5 minutes and then go into the ring to wrestle for your rights with the Welsh NHS truly shocking.

The second Ultrasound was interesting, as the male operative was using the stomach scan, causing me great pain in doing so, trying to get eyes on my right ovary, I endured this for about 30 mins until he said ohh there it is, there is no cyst but you have one on your left but I will write to the Gynae to say it's normal! No transvaginal...so I do not feel comfortable in taking their word as cancer is prevalent in my Family.

Update posted by I could do better (the patient)

It is a shame that a response hasn't been given by anyone. I was sent out to Cwm taf Gynaecology though I am usually with Swansea Bay University Health Board. My ultrasound was given at Neath which would be part of Swansea Bay UHB.
