"Parent Experience of Child Going Through Operation"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Paediatrics wards (19 & 20)

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was recently operated on in Ward 20 at University Hospital Wishaw. He was undergoing a tonsillectomy.

The level of support we received as a family was exceptional, everything was explained to us and my son, who was kept involved in the process which I felt was important as it put him at ease.

One of the key factors of our experience was access to the play room in the ward. This provided my child with a space where he could be an ease.  It was great to have the facility to pass the time that was required post surgery until his discharge. We were kept well informed of what was going to happen, how long tasks would take and this allowed us to plan effectively.

I am so grateful to everyone who supported us on that day and the playroom co-ordinator was amazing.

Hi Happyparent23,

Thank you for such positive feedback, I will pass this onto the team and especially our play leader. I am glad you felt supported and well informed. I hope your son is recovering well after his operation.
