"Dementia Support"

About: Community Mental Health Services / Dementia Outreach Team (DOT)

(as a relative),

My mother in law has had vascular dementia for past five years and recently was having hallucinations which were very real and distressing to her,the family tried to manage this ourselves but got to a stage where we needed help. I contacted the GP and explained the situation and we were referred to Dementia Outreach team.  The Dementia team contacted me the next day and arranged to visit the day after.  Margaret and Angela came and assessed my mother in law also spoke to the family advising the best way forward for her. They explained that there was medication that could help and would speak to the consultant attached to the team.

We as a family cannot thank Margaret and Angela enough for all their help in getting my Mother in law the help she needed and for the quick response.  These ladies are so helpful and understanding. We didn’t know about the Dementia Outreach team until I spoke to the GP, but they offer a fantastic service and are always happy to speak to you if you have any concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Dementia Outreach Team. I am delighted to hear that the support has been helpful for your mother in law and you all as a family. I will ensure this is shared with all the Dementia Outreach Team.
