"A helpful system :)"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Minor injuries unit NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

I fell at home in while mopping the floor and the next day was very aware of the pain in my right big toe.  After checking NHS inform for advice I phoned NHS 24 and I got straight through to an lovely advisor. It took a while to get a nurse but the advisor kept checking in with me and letting me know what was happening.

Following a discussion with the nurse they referred me to minor injuries. I very quickly had a call back arranging a video call within an hour. An hour after that I was at minor injuries and seen for an x-ray with only a short wait. My toe was fractured but didn't need any additional treatment. It might have been helpful to have a bit more information about what I can and can't do. However, I was really pleased with the joined up services and not having to spend hours in minor injuries.

Thank you to all the staff in the various parts of the service.

Hi Emma78

I'm so sorry to learn of your fall whilst mopping the floor. It just goes to show how easily accidents can happen! Although fractured, which sounds painful, I am pleased no further treatment was needed. No more floor mopping for a while at least:)

I'm pleased to see your journey of care was managed smoothly. Great teamwork by all involved.

I see you made an initial call to NHS 24, following seeking advice on NHS inform which was the right thing to do. Thanks for your kind comments for the staff here who managed your call. It's great that a referral was made to ensure you received onward care.

We always like to share our Care Opinion stories with the staff involved, therefore if you would be kind enough to contact me with some additional detail, than I could pass your thanks to the Call Handler and Clinical Supervisor involved. You can call me on 07814 299944 or email Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again and I hope to hear from you further.

Take care meantime and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Kind regards

Shona

Dear Emma78,

thank you for your care opinion. I am so sorry to hear about your fall and toe injury, I hope you are recovering well and your pain has settled. I'm delighted you found your experience positive from initial telephone call to being discharged, however, I am sorry you didn't get advice on after care of your injury, if you wish to drop me an email (care opinion doesn't share personal details so I can't send to you direct), I will gladly give you follow up advice regarding your injury - karen.hughes@ggc.scot.nhs.uk or alternatively you could call the minor injury unit direct on 0141 347 8482 and they would be more than happy to advise or answer any questions.

with kind regards,

Karen
