"Very bad ankle fracture"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Dermatology University Hospital Wishaw / Radiology University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a very bad ankle fracture while on holiday in July 22. I had surgery on holiday and I came home with a cast. When home I had to attend Wishaw General hospital, where I had multiple x-rays and CT scans and I had a lot of metal work on my ankle. It was re-plastered for a further 6 weeks. When the cast was removed, I had further x-rays and consultations and was advised that it had to be removed. After all the stitches were removed I had to go back for further appointments, more x-rays and clinical images taken of my ankle, as I had developed contact dermatitis around the areas where the metal has been inserted. The pain from the trauma site to this day is still on going. The consultant advised that it has to be removed to ease the pain. But first I had to see a skin specialist for a patch test to confirm it was ok to open up my ankle again and not cause further issues. I have been for that test back in April of this year and results sent back to consultant. I have heard nothing since. I don’t know if I am still under the fracture clinic at Wishaw or I have to just carry on in pain and an ankle that still has a fracture and so misshapen, I struggle to get shoes that don’t cause further pain. Also trying to keep the dermatitis from constantly breaking out from the metal is a challenge in it’s self. I’ve had no communication and don’t know where I am. I'm constantly in pain and hoping that I have not disappeared into a black NHS hole.

Update posted by induswj57 (the patient)

Thank you for the response to My Story, I have called the number for the patient affairs team as you kindly advised. I have been unable to make contact with the team. I have left a voicemail when I called last week.

I have called a couple of times since and again today - team unavailable and leave a message, I again seem to be in limbo, how long do I wait for the team to reply to the voicemail or do I continue to call, and leave further voicemails, I understand the team are busy and may get back to me but as before how long do I wait before this action goes into an administrative black hole.
