"All in all I am impressed with some aspects of my care"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

In the early hours of the morning, I was advised by the Mental Health Hub at NHS 24 to attend A&E at the GRI. I was hesitant and really didn't want to attend, but was advised that it would be best if I did. So I did attend.

I was expecting the A&E department to be extremely busy due to it being the weekend, but it was fairly peaceful. I was triaged by a lovely nurse (can't remember her name) in around 10 mins after arriving to the department.

A further 10-15 mins went past and I was called by Sheila, another lovely nurse who is a credit to her profession. She took me into a cubicle and left me a gown to get changed into. She came back about 5 mins later and performed an ECG. We had a laugh about the ECG Machine not working (I also work in the NHS, so I know the struggle).

Then I met one of the doctors in the department, They took some information and took some bloods. After an hour or so the bloods came back and I was free to go home.

I was a bit disappointed in the Doctor's approach to my care. They didn't arrange for further follow up by MH Services or the Crisis Team. Which I kind of felt was a waste of time attending the department, given the nature of my attendance.

All in all, I am impressed with some aspects of my care such as the Triage Nurse, the Nurse in Majors in A&E and disappointed in some aspects of my care such as the Doctor's approach.

Some things worked well, other aspects could do with improvement such as the Doctor's approach to Mental Health cases. I attended because I felt like I had no option after speaking to the Mental Health Hub. If I had a choice I would not have attended.
