I had an accident at home, falling down the stairs, resulting in my wrist being broken and fingers as well. In hospital it was suggested I could and would need help whilst I recovered. My left arm would be in a plaster cast and fingers in a splint, for at least 6 weeks. I would eventually need multiple visits to the Fracture Clinic as my wrist healed.
Within a week I received a home visit from an Occupational Therapist, Lauren asked me what I needed help with. As well as my injuries I felt very low, as it was very frustrating being unable to do everyday things, you would normally take for granted. I was assessed and a referral was made for me to receive help, from the Reablement Team.
It was arranged that I would have visits from Support Workers, in the morning and again at night, as it was a real struggle to wash or dress, make breakfast and prepare lunch by myself. Lauren and the various Support Workers showed me and gave tips on how to do things by myself, with only one arm. They also set me targets for various daily tasks, for me to try to achieve and improve upon, as my recovery went along.
Both Lauren and the various staff from the Support Workers Team, provided me with much needed encouragement and helped me build up my confidence. They encouraged me and kept my recovery on track, as I progressed I gradually needed less reliance on the Support Workers. I don't know how I would of got by without the help and assistance I received from them all.
All staff were extremely professional, diligent, very understanding and kind at all times.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all.
