"What the NHS is all about"

About: St Andrews Community Hospital / Recovery & rehabilitation

(as a friend),

We have been visiting a friend in ward 1 st andrews and it was a lovely ward and the majority of staff were lovely, some we found very hard and abrasive and not what we thought we would find, however this is more than made up for by 2 staff in particular, Jackie and Alison. The rapport and love and kindness that they showed to everyone in the wee bay was amazing, they are what the NHS should all be about.

The rapport they have with each other and their patients was breathtaking we sat there for over an hour and each time a buzzer went they were both their and ultimately had us all giggling. They are funny caring and passionate and they seem to bring out the best in everyone, sadly for us we will be gong back home but it is good to see our friend of over 50 years is without a doubt in the best place,we had 5 visits in total and the one that these 2 ladies were on definitely restored our faith in the NHS  .

Well done ladies.

My name is Siobhan McIlroy, and I am the Head of Patient Experience. NHS Fife welcomes all feedback, so thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry for the delay in you receiving a response.

It is lovely to hear that the staff, particularly Jackie and Alison, showed kindness to everyone, and I am sure they will be delighted to get this feedback and know that they have helped restore your faith in the NHS.

I am sorry not all staff were as lovely and were abrasive and hard. That is not what we want for our patients. I would appreciate an opportunity to discuss this further with you. If you wish to contact me, please email me at siobhan.mcilroy@nhs.scot and provide me with your contact details, and we can chat.

I am sure your friend loved your visit.

Thank you again for sharing your story, best wishes and take care, Siobhan

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am the lead nurse for Ward 1 and I will feed back to Alison and Jackie about your lovely feedback. I am so sorry that you had some negative experiences as I want to reiterate that we expect all staff to be lovely and kind and not abrasive and harsh. I wonder if you could get in touch with myself at karen.gibb2@nhs.scot or SCN Elliot at Michael.Elliot2t@nhs.scot to discuss your experience to support us to work with stay to improve patient and relatives experience. In the meantime we will share your review with the staff and discuss with them what improvements we need to make to improve.
