I recently gave birth under the new Emerald Team/ Continuity of Care Team. I understand this is a trial run but the midwives involved seemed to be totally clueless in relation to antenatal care, uneducated in relation to antenatal care and uninterested.
Numerous things were missed throughout my antenatal journey and things that should have been picked up on were not. Fortunately, no harm came to myself or the baby in the end but I did not feel confident in the midwives at all.
Throughout the delivery the midwife totally lacked empathy and did not offer any of the services they had discussed such as reflexology, relaxation techniques, use of essential oils, hypnobirthing techniques etc which they boasted about having - they clearly did not. I received the bare minimum.
The midwives also did not seem to know me or my baby whatsoever either, constantly forgetting things and getting the due date wrong/ stating the incorrect gestation of my baby. I thought the whole point of this trials was so the midwife knew you inside out -in my opinion, it is clearly not working very well.
I feel that a few of the midwives in this time do not have the right attitude for this role and require a lot more training in relation to antenatal care - for their own sake, the mothers and the baby’s!
