About: Whiteabbey Hospital

(as a carer),

I look after an elderly deaf person and this is specific to them.

I brought her to White Abbey hospital and this was for her skin cancer appointment, where she had tests and biopsies -She was told she would get a letter for a follow-up. She received her follow-up via a letter with a QR code. The QR code when scanned contained information about skin cancer it was all just audio, not even sub-titles-as deaf people we weren’t able to understand that-it was just a box with audio, no visuals, no subtitles, not suitable.

Dear leomh57

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologise that the lady that you look after was unable to get the right information in a format that was suitable and met her needs.

If you could contact Cancer Services we will ensure that the lady receives written information. We will explore ways of making this information more accessible.

Once again thank you for raising this as an issue, we will give this situation our attention and we will seek to find a solution that meets the needs of our auditory impaired patients/carers.
