"Very Good Experience"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Female Medical Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I collapsed in my home a week ago and my husband could not get me up of the floor.  An ambulance was called and we where told that none was available, which meant I had to lie on the floor for six hours before an ambulance was dispatched.

I was taken straight to A&E and was seen straight away.  I have had blood tests and a X-Ray carried out so far and I am getting a CT Scan tomorrow.  The doctors have got to the route of the problem and since I have started medication the pain has eased to the point where I was able to go for a walk today with the help of my rollater.

All the nursing staff have been excellent and I feel that I have been given great care and attention since I arrived to Female Medical,  It is a very busy ward, but nothing is too much trouble.

Good morning Cland93,

I would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to share your experience of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. As an organisation we are committed to consistently show compassion, professionalism, and respect for the patients we care for, so it was disappointing to learn that on this occasion the service provided did not meet our expected standards.

With regards to our response times please be assured that we are working closely with the Department of Health and the Strategic Planning and Performance Group to increase our available resources. We are also working with the local EDs to try to ensure that our patients can be handed over to hospital clinical teams as quickly as possible so that ambulance are able to respond to further emergencies.

I wish you the best with your recuperation and apologies once again.

Best wishes,

Neil
