"Pregnancy and birth"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as a service user),

Pregnancy and birth at RAH. Felt well cared for throughout. Particularly during labour with the midwife. She kept my birth calm and I felt in control the whole time.

I would say, that there is a lot of jargon used by NHS staff during pregnancy, something as simple as “go to the CMU” and I had to ask what that meant and where which I can only imagine some people might not feel confident enough to ask.

Finding my way around the maternity building felt rather daunting too, I feel places could be directed to a little better.

Hi Kirge46

Firstly congratulations and thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. It is lovely to hear that the midwife kept you feeling calm and in control the whole time during your experience in Labour ward.

Thank you for pointing out the use of jargon within the department I will definitely follow this up with staff to improve communication and clarity between ourselves and the women and families in our care. I would love for you to get in contact and discuss what areas we can have better signage to help people find their way around the maternity building a little better.

It would also give me the opportunity to find out which Midwife looked after you so that I can give them this positive feedback on the care they provided.

Please feel free to contact me via email at laura.flynn@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Kind regards

Laura Flynn
