I was injured at Xmas time, I was given a referral to physio, however never got an appointment until Feb 2023 at Irvine Central, which of course was well outside the time that I needed for my injury, I had to go private and had about 4 sessions, because I was not seen by NHS, so I had to chase up the appointment.
Now attending the appointment, it was difficult to walk, and difficult to find exactly where to go, the letter was not accurate, and at this point, I was 15 minutes early.
I went to reception to the left of the x-ray, a long walk, and they said sorry it is not us. I then asked where to go, and they said to go down to the room at the bottom, nest to the vending machines. So I did, I sat and waited for about 10 more minutes, getting anxious as now almost late.
No one came in, I got up and went to x-ray reception, I showed them a letter and they said I don't know, but not here, however, I believe you sit in the room with vending machines and someone will get you. So I waited another 15 mins, now late, getting worried, frustrated.
I decided to try contacting hospital by phone, and eventually got put thru to someone who helped, I explained everything, they were very helpful, they came and got me and told me I'm just next door.
Now I am in the correct area and about 20 mins late thru no fault of my own. I was then presented by this physio person. They told me to come this way, and tutted. I was annoyed about their first impressions of me, and me of them, so I explained what had happened, and they just gave a big sigh.
The physio then carried out the examination, I struggled with getting my trousers off, getting on the bed and off, and they were just going thru their routine without realizing or knowing my limits or my other injuries - rotator cuff both sides, neck issue, back pain, hip flexors get stuck, and much more unfortunately.
I was there for the knee left side, and ankle right, mainly. To my amazement, the physio's attitude was horrendous. I am a health professional myself and would never treat someone this way, but the way they spoke to me, no compassion, no offer of help or assistance, everything seemed to be an effort for them.
I was in agony, then the physio gave me their assessment. I was told that they thought there wasn't anything wrong, just a sprain. I explained it has been beyond the reasonable time for that, and they said I used my knee to get up, I said for balance only as I could not get up otherwise, they suggested that it was probably emotional more than anything else.
At that point the physio had made me really angry, I tried to stay calm, I explained that I have seen private physio for 4 sessions and they then asked me what they had said. I then told them the information, and they said nothing other than that we are now running very late, so I left.
I could not believe that a professional would talk this way to a patient. I felt so angry, frustrated, and disappointed, I wondered how many other people have felt that way today or maybe many more times.
I will now add after being let down by this person, I decided to go private. I had to pay for MRI on my knee and ankle and I am getting a knee operation on my cartilage, a tear of thru posterior horn of medial meniscus with extrusion of meniscal with capsulitis, and possibly later on my ankle,
I just feel so let down.
