"The Staff and volunteers have hearts of gold"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a friend),

The Staff and volunteers have hearts of gold. I know how cliche that can sound, but they are all such genuinely good people and it is such a breath of fresh air to have had the privilege to be around. They are warm, supportive, and encouraging, and no problem is too big or too small, or too silly or daft. They take everything that matters to you, just as seriously. I had my preconceptions as everyone does about a Hospice, but they quickly quash all of them, making sure every single person is as comfortable and confident as they possibly can be.

There is such a variety of activities, experiences and information that there is something for everyone to partake in, although nobody is forced to do anything they feel unable to do.

The Sanctuary and the engagement of Staff and volunteers for one-on-one moments is invaluable, notably Kirsten and Mairi whom do not get enough praise for all they do. They always have time for a chat about any of your worries, and personal anecdotes that make you feel more at ease.

The option for Spiritual Care although not relevant for myself is also subtle, but very much easily accessible for those who feel they would benefit from it, and George has been extremely kind and welcoming in that regard too.

All of the volunteers involved in my Wednesdays have always had a smile on their faces and it makes such a difference to be greeted with that in the morning, especially over the first few weeks and they too take time to get to know you, your likes and what you need or what you're nervous about.

The thing I take away will always be the kindness of the whole Staff and volunteer team, it is invaluable and immeasurable.

Thank you for all you do and continue to do within Day Services.

Dear auriganz76.

My name is Mairi-Louise Houldsworth and I am one of the registered nurses in Kilbryde Hospice, Day Services department. Along with my colleagues, I have responsibility for compiling and leading the Day Services group which provides support for people with a variety of conditions, living in the South Lanarkshire area. I'm delighted to respond to such positive feedback from you and we really appreciate you taking the time to provide it.

I will, of course share your post with staff and volunteers alike, and I'm sure, like me, they will be very grateful and humbled by such lovely comments. It makes our role all the more enjoyable to know we are providing a valuable service. It's one we take great pride in.

We try to cover a wide range of subjects, as you say, from symptom management to spiritual care and many things in between. In doing so, we try to relieve anxieties and make people as relaxed and at ease.

We are also open to constructive feedback, this is how we learn and adapt, so please feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions on how to improve our service. We can be reached by phone on 01355 202020 (option 4), or by email, info@kilbrydehospice.org.uk or by dropping in in person to Kilbryde Hospice, McGuinness Way, East Kilbride G75 8GJ, Mon to Fri between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Please feel free to ask for me, but, be assured, if I was unavailable, one of my colleagues would be happy to meet with you.

Very best wishes

Mairi-Louise Houldsworth RGN

Kilbryde Hospice.
