"Cardiac arrest, treatment and care"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Intensive Care Unit

(as a service user),

I had a cardiac arrest and had rescuers free me from my car (breaking car windows with the help of passing workmen). Fortunately in the queue of traffic that built up, there was a nurse who administered CPR until the arrival of an ambulance.

I was transported to Hairmyres A&E for emergency treatment and admitted to a High Dependency Unit.

As I partly recovered, I was moved to a traditional ward. Approximately two weeks later from date of admission, I received an arterial stent and was able to be discharged the following day.

Following release I attended weekly cardiac rehab exercise classes for 4 weeks.

Dear grateful survivor

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is fantastic to hear that passers by, workmen and others were able to gain access to your car and administer CPR. People do come together in an emergency and it is absolutely wonderful to hear that after treatment you were then able to attend exercise classes.

I hope that you continue to recover well. I wish you all the best and thank you again for sharing your story

Lise
