I have to come into hospital for a procedure under general anaesthetic at least every 8 or 10 weeks.
I have always had a very warm welcome to the pre assessment clinic in Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy.
The nursing and administration staff are both so very friendly and accommodating to my needs.
My most recent visit was within the last fortnight and I was seen very quickly and a lovely nurse, who I think was called Sandra?
Even though I do come in regularly for the same procedure, I still get very anxious about a general anaesthetic mixed with all my health problems and my medication.
Sandra has such a calming persona and is very understanding. She is also very professional and was able to talk through all of my medications and put me at ease.My previous experiences with other nurses in the clinic have been equally as positive. The clinic itself is within the older tower block, however, you don’t realise that it is because the nhs trust have done such an extensive and excellent update of the areas that are still in use in the block.
Lastly, it was so good to see everyone’s full faces and so many smiles in the clinic.
I know it must be a daunting transition because the face masks have been such a regular sight in hospitals for the past few years and they definitely were an essential component in the fight against coronavirus but it must be so liberating to finally be able to communicate with a smile yet again.
