I have obtained my clinical notes regarding my last pregnancy - this is where this complaint comes from.
I attended EPAS in 2020 following private scans and worry about my 3rd pregnancy- worries that were valid after delivering my daughter with multiple health issues/ disabilities. During this visit there were 2 midwives having a extremely unprofessional conversation outside the room regarding my attendance and having private scans, suggesting I was being ridiculous, amongst other things.
I left the room and challenged the nurses on the conversation, advising them to come in and speak with myself, the patient, if they required further information. One did so and I rightly told them their behaviour was ridiculous and I was disgusted with the conversation and how I was being treated. I explained my worries, my concerns and also my right to pay for as many private scans as I felt fit.
The nurse was extremely flustered and obviously knew the conversation was inappropriate- admitting so at the time. I considered complaining but as felt that I had addressed it directly myself and hoped they'd have learnt a lesson from it on good patient care and compassion. Also factoring in human stresses. Unfortunately I've obtained my medical records and see that what has been documented is far from what actually happened.
I still remember not what exactly was said but how they made me feel in a time of worry and strife.
Their behaviour reminds me of how not to behave as I go forth continuing to be a professional, compassionate member of staff during the worst times of people's lives.
So 2+years later I hope they have learnt something from this episode.
