I have been having infusions for about twenty years now, beginning with Dr. Turner and continuing to the present day.
Initially I was pretty mobile and had no difficulty negotiating the walk to the various locations where the infusion unit was located. I have journeyed from the initial location in Ward 6, where you actually got to lie in a bed throughout the treatment, to the present site in Ward 9.
I currently have some problems with walking and some days find the trip from the hospital entrance to Ward 9 trying. I know that there are people with much more serious mobility issues than I and wonder if Ward 9 is the right location for people like myself. I know that porters are available but they are in short supply. I have had to wait for almost an hour for a porter to become available.
When I do reach the Ward I find myself in a caring ambiance where I feel as if I am valued. The nurses are busy but always ready with a friendly word, quick to put people at their ease. It's never a pleasure to sit down and think of the prospect of having a needle stuck in your arm but being plied with cups of tea certainly helps to alleviate any stress.
Over the many years that I have attended the clinic I have never left feeling anything but extremely well cared for and the belief that I matter. Well done to each and every one of the staff who work there.
