"My journey from hoist to walking"

About: Edgware Community Hospital / Neurological Rehabilitation Centre

(as a service user),

I had a major stroke which affected my entire life, including movement and speech. I arrived at the NRC able to speak, but using a hoist and unable to do basic things such as using my mobile and writing, and feeling very sad.

In my 10 weeks here, I was taken from the hoist to the sara study, and eventually using a tripod to walk; I am leaving tomorrow with the ability to use my mobile phone as normal, such as replying to emails and scrolling online, and I will walk out using an aid. This is all thanks to the wonderful and encouraging physios here!

The nursing staff and HCAs are exemplary - they have been very kind and patient; I love them all and will miss them!

My only recommendation is that there is more entertainment at the weekends as it is very lonely. Volunteers that could do activities with the patients would be much appreciated.
