"Up and About"

About: Allied Health Professionals (Occupational Therapy, Physio, Dietetics, Speech & Language, Enhanced Intermediate Care) / Aids and adaptations Health & Community Care Services / Health and Therapy Teams Royal Alexandra Hospital / Elderly Medicine (wards 3-7 & 36)

(as a service user),

I have suffered from Parkinson's from some time now. This illness comes in different forms, in my case it manifests itself by upsetting my balance.

I have attended the Geriatric Medicine Clinic in the NHS Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. My balance problem has got worse recently and the Paisley team have passed me on to a Largs based specialist group for further assessment.

Zoe of this group visited my home recently. She checked the living conditions generally, including toilet facilities, and as a result of this check I was given a triangular walking frame, toilet seat frame and a lounge chair cushion and a copy of Up and About. These items are all very useful and are now in every day use.

I was also shown a number of exercises, which I use to help me deal with my balance.

I would like to thank all the staff in Largs for their support.

Dear Youpy97]

I am sorry to hear that your balance problem has got worse. You have mentioned the Geriatric Medicine Clinic at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and I wanted to acknowledge your feedback. I am pleased that the Clinic was able to refer you to the Specialist Team based in Largs.

I am glad that the home visit went well and that you were shown a number of exercises to help with your balance. I am sure that the staff in NHS Ayrshire and Arran will be delighted with your feedback.

Best wishes

Nicole

Dear youpy97,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your lovely feedback about the support you received from the Health and Therapy Team at Brooksby in Largs.

I am sorry that your balance has been affected by your Parkinson’s disease but very glad you now have the appropriate equipment and advice to help you both improve and manage this.

I will pass your kind words onto Zoe and the rest of the team.

Than you once more and I wish you well in the future.

Joanna, Team Lead - Health and Therapy Team/Community Physiotherapy North
