"Nurses are so kind in every way"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Physiotherapy Victoria Hospital / Rapid Access and Discharge

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Unfortunately I had a fall at home and an ambulance had to be called.

The ambulance only took 3 - 5 minutes to arrive and that was very quick.

I can remember the men in the ambulance were chatting away, asking me continually if I was OK and basically trying to reassure me. I was being taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, the road is very bumpy and the ambulance crew tried to keep me comfortable at all times. I really don't have much memory of the journey, but to describe the ambulance crew I would say they were excellent.

I had numerous injuries and during my stay I had to have a CT scan, a plaster cast put on my arm and I also saw the physiotherapist.

The care in Ninewells hospital was good. I was then informed that I was to be transferred back to the admissions ward in the Victoria Hospital In Kirkcaldy. There seemed to be some difficulty in getting an ambulance for the return journey so my family made arrangements to take me back.

The staff there were great, however I met an Orthopaedic doctor who was not happy with the plaster cast I had on and spoke in quite an abrupt manner to me. I wasn't happy being spoken to in such an abrupt manner and I reported it to one of the nurses.

The plaster cast was then removed and replaced with my fingers being taped and a splint fitted.

In the admissions ward the staff were excellent, giving care and advice at all times.

I was then transferred to Ward 9, Rapid Assessment Discharge. I felt the first nurse I met asked a lot of question and I was so tired. However overall in ward 9 the staff cannot be faulted. If I was asked to rate the nursing care I would give 9.9 out of 10.

The care is excellent, whether it be from the nursing assistants helping me with washing or the Physios supporting me with stair exercises. They have also given me a walking stick and I have a special boot to wear.

I am aware that Hospital at Home is being arranged for me and I am grateful for this .

The Nurses are so kind in every way, nothing is a bother for them.

Dear Staffmemberfife1

I am sorry to hear of your recent fall at home which resulted in admission to hospital.

It is lovely to hear that the ambulance arrived quickly. I am sure their attendance was reassuring and comforting.

In regards to Ward 9, I am happy to hear that you overall had a good experience with positive feedback given for the nursing staff. However, I am sorry to hear that you felt they asked a lot of questions when you were tired. This is feedback I can share with the team and ensure that all answers and responses are recorded to hopefully reduce any unnecessary questions that may be asked.

I hope you are now recovering well under the care of Hospital at Home.

Kind regards

Lisa Herd
