About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The Hospital itself is of very high standard. The staff, the treatments are all better than my local hospital and I would recommend it to anybody.

What could be improved

However getting to the hosptal is an absolute nightmare if you going by car. I took my partner there today & followed the signs for the multi storey car park. They take you infront of the main exit to the hospital which is busy enough with people never mind cars. And after going round in a a big circle the car park was full. It took me 15 minutes to get from the main road to the car park just to be told it was closed. Why couldn't there be a sign on entry to the hospital grounds saying that the car park was full??? By this time my partner was going to be late for her appointment so she had to get out & go on her own which was hard because she was going for important test results & wanted me there. When I asked the car park attendant where the nearest car park was he rudely ignored me. So while my partner was in on her own I was frantically driving round looking for somewhere to park but there wasn't any & I missed my partners appointment.

Thank you for your comments. We regularly monitor all feedback received about our services and use it as a basis for improving the way we provide all aspects of hospital care. The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, has developed a Trust-wide Travel Plan to tackle the parking/transport issues across all the hospitals. The plan is designed to make alternative modes of transport realistic options and thus encourage patients, visitors and staff to change their modes of travel where possible. We have already expanded our shuttle bus service to encourage more staff and patients to travel between the hospitals via public transport and there are various park and ride schemes operating within the city that can be used when accessing the hospitals. Further information is available from the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) on www.sypte.co.uk or by telephoning 0114 276 7575.

We continue to consider possible options to increase car parking as and when opportunities present. This involves exploring the option of building more parking spaces, developing nearby park & ride schemes and most recently a review of parking in the RHH multi-storey car park to reduce the number of staff in this area and improve access for patients.
