"Going above and beyond"

About: Local Care Direct

(as a parent/guardian),

Just before teatime my three year old pushed a nut up her nose. After ringing the doctor who said they were unable to help and phoning 111 we made our way to St George's Urgent Treatment Center. We arrived at 7pm to be told by the receptionist that they were taking no more admissions as the service was closing at 8pm due to being short staffer. That left us with the one option we were dreading, going to A&E at LGI. At that point a nurse called Paula came out of her room and although incredibly stressed said she would forgo her tea break to try one thing to help dislodge the nut. If it worked then great, if not then it would be A&E. We were so grateful to be given an opportunity to save us going to LGI. At what was a very long shift for Paula and still with a waiting room full of people, Paula gave us great care and attention and with her excellent support the nut was dislodged. We can't thank Paula enough, she went above and beyond to help us and our daughter when we needed her the most.
