After years of IVF we finally fell pregnant. After waters breaking and a long labour we ended up having a c section in June 2023. A couple of days later I was whisked away for an MRI scan where they found a disc pressing on the nerves for bladder, bowel and leg function. So I had an emergency back operation first thing the very next day. I was away from our new born for 3 whole days this meant that my milk didn’t come in as it should and I’d had absolutely no time to bond with her.
Getting home was such a scary experience, our first child. We were having to combi feed and to be honest we had absolutely no idea what we were doing. The worry and stress along with the pain of two operations had a huge impact on my mental health and bonding with our daughter.
Our health visitor has been absolutely fantastic. She has made us feel such at ease and has shown us that we can do this. Her knowledge and experience shines through with the confidence in which she speaks. Without her I would no longer be breast feeding and to be honest I would be struggling mentally with looking after a new born.
After having a child we are put home so quickly from hospital with very little, sometimes no experience and left to ‘get on with things’.
These health visitor visits are so important and have had a huge impact on our family. Helping us to be the best parents we can be and to know that the support is there takes a huge pressure off.
We can’t thank Jen enough for everything.
"Our fantastic health visitor"
