Our daughter had been on the pathway for the neurodevelopment team for a period of approximately 5 years and recently she received her diagnosis of autism and ADHD. When we were assigned to Emma in Lanarkshire's neurodevelopmental team it was a mixture of nerves and also relief to finally have support for our daughter.
Emma was amazing from start to finish, she was so understanding and she listened and made me feel like what we were experiencing as a family was actually happening and not just in my head. She put us all at ease and connected with our daughter and became very much a part of our family as we went on our journey to support our daughter.
Communication was outstanding from emails to text messages to phone calls to appointments, nothing was ever any trouble for Emma, even to the point where she was off sick, her team stepped right in to ensure nothing was missed for our daughter or to ensure the process didn't stop just because someone was off.
We received an abundance of support and resources and pointed in the direction for more support for our daughter when we needed it. Any worries we had as parents were listened to, advice given and even pointed to other services to provide additional support.
Emma and the neurodevelopmental team have supported us to discover our daughters identity and the ways to help her shine in this world and for that we are eternally grateful. It certainly has been a very long time coming but we have answers, we were listening to and we were validated as a family. Whenever I talk about our journey, Emma will be there as a shining example of how amazing it can be when multi-agency teams work together to support children and their families, breaking down barriers and helping our children to shine like the stars that they are.
Overall our experience with Emma and the Neurodevelopmental team, Lanarkshire has been amazing and I appreciate all the help and support they have given us over this past year. Additionally, an extra special thank you to Emma for her support, dedication, her passion, her experience and knowledge and for giving our family answers - with thanks to you and your sixth sense, both myself and my husband are about to embark on our own neurodiversity journey and I hope it is just as fabulous as it has been for our daughter.
