Two months ago, I attended Rubislaw ward at Aberdeen Maternity hospital for a scan after experiencing bleeding at twelve weeks pregnant.
The initial scan they had booked me in for was cancelled on the day due to short staffing. This was frustrating but understandable. We attended for a scan the next day and were told that I was experiencing a "missed miscarriage." The sonographers gently explained that the baby had stopped growing at seven weeks but my body continued with the pregnancy. They gave us the treatment options and advised us to phone once we made a decision. I opted to leave treatment for a week to see if the miscarriage would complete naturally but it didn't so I ended up choosing to have a procedure under general anaesthetic. Everyone from the sonographer, midwives and nurses on the ward, to the anesthetist, doctor and surgical staff were all so kind and understanding. It is such a difficult time for a woman and her partner but the amazing care that you all provide goes a long way and I will always remember the compassion that I received. Thank you. A special thankyou to Megan, the nurse who looked after me. You made the experience that bit easier.
