About: Cumbernauld Locality Support Service / Social work services Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Stroke care (Ward 17, 31, 36) Hazelhead Homecare New Stobhill Hospital / Elderly Medicine (Ward b & c)

(as a relative),

My story is about my mum who had a stroke in June. This was devastating for us as a family having to come to understand how to help her & realise she now needed 24/7 care. Mum had cognitive issues for 7 years & did have carers from Hazelhead home care for the last 2 years, which was not the best care with missed medication/visits and poor communication.

When mum was admitted to hospital the Royal infirmary Glasgow the A&E staff were excellent, The staff on ward 31 were not that great with communication & attitude.

Mum was transferred to Stobhill hospital ward C & they were amazing Rebecca, Sharon & the night shift staff also amazing. Rebecca I can not thank you enough for all you done for my mum, truly grateful for your dedication & care.

Mum was very distressed in the hospital environment & after 3 weeks ,I knew I needed help to have her discharged as she now did not need medical care. On feeling lost & not knowing where to go for help I contacted Angela from social work department as she had visited my mum in April this year at home. I can not stress enough how amazing Angela was her understanding, compassion, professionalism was second to none, I will be forever grateful. Angela helped  find an interim place for mum & within 3 days she was transferred to a care home , where Pauline from social services came to visit & talked us through what now had to been done. Pauline was lovely & very helpful .

Thank you Angela, you kept me sane & answered my prayers and continued to update me every step of the way. I truly appreciate everything you have done to help my mum & me, I could never repay your kindness. Many many thanks

Dear Jeanie123

I am very sorry to hear about your Mum’s stroke and that she now needs 24/7 care. I appreciate that this is a very difficult time for all of you.

Thank you for you kind comments regarding the staff in A&E and Ward C at Stobhill (especially Rebecca, Sharon and the night staff). I am sorry that the communication and attitude within Ward 31 was not great. I have discussed this with the staff on the ward who have asked me to convey their apologies and we will reflect on this to help us improve our service.

I am glad that Angela and Pauline were able to assist you and your Mum.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make a comment on the service that you received from Angela and Pauline from social work and my other colleagues in NHS. Paul, the locality social work manager has asked me to thank you on his behalf.

I'm so pleased to hear that Angela and Pauline's input and support helped you and your Mum so much, and that you found a care home place quickly. I really hope that your Mum is settled and happy in her new home, and that this has taken some of the stress and pressure off of you. I know that both Angela and Pauline will appreciate your kind comments and feedback, and I will ensure that they and their manager Paul, hear how much you valued their help and support.
