"My son and their addiction to Ketamine."

About: Hull ReNew The Bridges

(as a service user),

My son changed from a happy man loving life and clothes, to a scruffy lazy horrible selfish person. We didn't realise it was ketamine at first until we found it in his bedroom. Our son lied about it but we realised it was a bigger problem than we thought.

Me and my son had a great relationship but it was going down hill as all we did was row over his addiction to ketamine and it was killing us as a family because we knew he didn't want this life but he was to weak to stop. Family and friends really tried to help but it didn't work.

Our son got to the point were he was wetting the bed in the night because of it. After a few arguments we booked him into rehab and I drove him there the next day which was so hard knowing I am not going to see him for 4 weeks. To my surprise he met lots of nice people in rehab that helped him get off the drugs they saved his life. My son is drug free and back to been my cheeky son we have got our old son back, if it wasn't for the help from rehab and weekly meetings to renew I really think we would of lost him, I can't thank them enough

Hi Davina,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It must have been incredibly difficult to witness your son's transformation and struggle with ketamine addiction. Your honest account of the challenges your family faced highlights the profound impact addiction can have on everyone involved.

It's commendable that you and your family sought help and support for your son once you discovered the seriousness of the situation. I can only imagine that the decision to book him into rehab was undoubtedly tough, but it turned out to be a life-changing step for him. The fact that he met supportive and caring people at rehab who helped him overcome his addiction is truly heart-warming to hear.

We're glad to hear that our service played a significant role in your son's recovery journey. It's great for our staff to hear that their assistance and the weekly meetings your son has attended seem to have been instrumental in helping him get back on track and reclaim his life.

Addiction is a challenging battle, and having a strong support system can make all the difference. Your unwavering love and determination to help your son through this challenging time are equally as important as the professional help that we as a service can give, and unfortunately not all people who have addiction issues will get that help, love and support from their family.

It takes tremendous strength and courage to confront such a difficult situation, and you should be proud of your efforts. We wish you and your family continued strength and joy as you move forward with your son's newfound sobriety!
