My teenage son, became seriously ill with MSSA septicaemia and was admitted to the hospital I myself work in as a consultant. He was cared for by the ED team, rheumatology team, thoracic surgery team, medical team and finally the infectious diseases team.
Despite the numerous teams involved, they all worked seamlessly to sort out my son's illness. The radiology department facilitated two CT scans and an MRI scan without delay. An echocardiogram also took place within 24 hours of referral. The infectious diseases team took overall responsibility, co-ordinated his care, arranged a PICC line insertion in under 3 hours (still can't quite believe how rapidly that happened - hats off to the PICC Line service!) and even arranged for home IV antibiotics when he was well enough (thanks to Julie and her team). As a worn down, burnt out & cynical NHS staff member, my faith in the NHS was restored by being on the other side of things. I cannot thank all of the staff enough for what they did for my son.
