"The nurses there are earth angels"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Cardiology (heart problems) Ward 1E Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric Intensive Care Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

Our daughter was diagnosed with a large ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD) and Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

We were admitted to hospital on the in June 2023 to ward 1E in the Royal Children's Hospital in Glasgow. We spent over a week there before her surgery. On the lead up to her surgery we had many nights where her symptoms were really bad with breath holding/blue episodes and her oxygen levels dropping.

The nurses there are earth angels who reassured us everyday and helped us through probably the most worrying time of our lives. We had been dealing with these at home and without them raising their concerns her surgery might not have been so soon.

After surgery we spent a week in the PICU where we had a few wobbles with her heart rhythm and digestive system playing up but eventually we got back to ward 1E.

Our recovery there gave us that little bit of independence with our daughter again, alongside the support of the nurses there. We could never have done it without them. They saved us and our daughter and I could not speak more highly of the staff in this department. They deserve a medal. For them they were only doing there job but to us it was everything.

Good afternoon GS2808

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback for the teams in ward 1e and PICU, who are truly fantastic. It makes such a huge difference to hear your thoughts which we will share with the teams.

We strive at all times to give the very best care across the cardiac faculty and words like this have such a huge impact on the team.

All the very best for your daughters ongoing recovery.

Kind regards

Mark
